Tarzan is the main character of the world-famous book written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and has starred in many movies, television series and comic books.

The jungle theme and antics of our hero Tarzan are an excellent fit for an online slot adaption. Microgaming has put a lot of effort into developing a slot that is just as thrilling as the book that made the lead character famous.

However, while the game mechanisms and bonus features are top-notch, Tarzan does disappoint in the visual aspect. Graphically, this slot looks like it was made 15 years ago, and the slow spinning reels do not help the matter.

Tarzan has a medium variance and a return to player of 96%.

Tarzan slot features

Tarzan offers players 40 fixed pay lines and a minimum stake of $0.01 per line. As a result, the minimum bet amounts to $0.40 per spin. Should you wish to bet more, the maximum bet is $40 per spin.

The symbols’ design is a bit of a shambles: a somewhat strange mix of Tarzan & Jane characters, wild jungle animals and…fruit. We cannot fathom what apples and plums have to do with the King of the Jungle. Luckily, the stacked wild symbols do bring quite a bit of excitement to the game and can help you land those big wins you are after.

The bonus symbol is scattered, and it takes three or more of them to activate the bonus feature.

The Tarzan bonus feature: free spins, extra wilds and cash credits

As soon as the bonus round has been activated, a wheel of fortune appears on the screen. You are invited to turn the wheel and win one of the following prizes:

• The jackpot: win up to 1,000 times your total bet.
• A free spins bonus with Rolling Reels and Growing Wilds.
• The Hippo bonus: win cash prizes.
• Cash prizes up to 6x your total bet.

The Hippo bonus and free spins bonus are far more desirable than the cash prize bonus. Of course, the jackpot award is the one you are after – this will pay up to 1,000 x your stake. Even at the minimum bet, this could be worth $400. 

Some extra features come into play during the free spins bonus: the Rolling Reels feature will make winning combinations disappear to make way for new symbols. It is possible to accumulate several (big) cash prizes during one spin.

The Growing Wilds feature adds more stacked wilds to every new free spin. This feature can lead to big wins, especially when combined with the Rolling Reels feature.

The Tarzan slot: our verdict

We enjoyed the gameplay and bonus features of the Tarzan slot. Sadly, graphically, it is just not good enough for a 2016 release by one of the industry’s leading software providers.

You should enjoy this online slot, as long as you don’t expect all the bells and whistles and superior graphics that we have come to expect from other software providers such as Thunderkick, Quickspin and Netent.
