Netent made a lot of noise, before releasing this slot. Only because of its massive win potential, did it get a lot of attention. Well, I can’t deny the latter.

The main game of Rome: The Golden Age has a 3x4x5x4x3 setup and 20 fixed paylines.

The five high-paying symbols are a tiger, a roman mask, an eagle, a golden ring and a pair of swords and the five low-paying symbols are the 10, J, Q, K and A.

You see the Golden Age symbols (looks like a coin), Golden Rome symbols and Golden Wild symbols.

The main game is pretty straightforward. If you manage to get a Golden Age symbol in a golden frame, you’ll see that the golden frame becomes active (and illuminated). Afterwards, it’s possible to get many Wild symbols.

Apart from the graphics, which look fantastic, it’s a pretty dull base game.

Building up a free spins multiplier

At the top left corner, you see a meter (a progress bar). You need to collect 200 points, to get the free spins multiplier (which you see on the top right corner) to increase from x1 to x2.

Do it again and it increases to x3. And again to get it to x5, afterwards to x7, x10, x12, x15, x20, x30, x40, x50, x75, x100, x200, x300, x500, x750 and all the way to x1000.

So you need to collect 200 points to get to x2, 400 points to x3 and so forth. If you manage to collect 3600 points, you have the free spins multiplier of 1000x!

However, the issue is that the multiplier resets back to x1 if you have used the free spins multiplier. And you do, once you trigger the free spins.

How do you get the free spins?

Once you get 3 Scatters (on reels 2, 3 and 4), you trigger the free spins.

Usually, it’s good news, but in this slot, it isn’t. Why? Because the free spins multiplier is used at the end of the free spins. And afterwards, it resets back to x1.

The dream scenario is to build up a free spins multiplier of x1000 (by collecting 3600 points, before you trigger the free spins). So, you only get there, if you don’t get the free spins, at least for a very long time!

The free spins – works like a money feature

You get 3 free spins, and you’ll see coins (with values from 0.5x to 50x) appearing on the grid. If you land at least one new coin, the counter resets and you’re still entitled to 3 more free spins. The feature stops, if you fail to get a new coin for 3 consecutive times.

In the end, the value of all the coins is added. Yes, afterwards, it’s multiplied with the free spins multiplier (which is at least x1 and at most x1000).
