Cluster Pays slots, also known as “grid slots,” are becoming increasingly popular.

It was Play’n GO that introduced the innovative and successful so-called grid slots, including Reactoonz and Honey Rush. Other providers soon followed suit; Push Gaming, for instance, released the immensely popular Jammin’ Jars.

Now, Quickspin has decided to release its own grid slot: Golden Glyph. The Egyptian theme is far from original, but the gameplay is. And that is an understatement!

Golden Glyph features Cluster Pays, mini boosters, free spins, an increasing multiplier and a maximum win potential of a blistering 13,000 x the bet. All the fireworks are there.

In this slot, winning symbols make way for new ones (Avalanche mechanism or Tumbling mechanism). You earn extra boosters when you make consecutive winning combinations.

The game offers so much variety that no spin is the same. You won’t get bored quickly as it is all put together perfectly. And the graphics and sounds are stunning, as all Quickspin slots usually are.

What are the theoretical RTP, the variance and the maximum win of the Golden Glyph Slot?

The theoretical payout rate is 96.19%, which is pretty good but, of course, not spectacular. It is around the average RTP of online slots.

The maximum win is a sky-high 13,000x the bet.

Most Quickspin slots have medium variance. However, given the maximum win potential and the progressive multipliers, we tend to give this slot the benefit of the doubt regarding providing a qualification for the variance. We qualify it as medium/high.

Gameplay and features of the Golden Glyph slot

Golden Glyph is played on a 7 x 7 grid, with a total of 49 symbols.

You get winning combinations if you manage to create clusters (connected symbols) of 5 or more identical symbols.

Each winning combination gets you a special wild, called the Power Wild. If you manage to make another a winning cluster (and the Power Wild is part of said cluster), you activate extra boosters (called power-ups).

There are four extra boosters (on the left of the screen) :

The Golden Scarab Power-Up: this one is the most powerful and gives you 4 to 10 extra wilds.

The Bomb Power-Up: destroys a horizontal and a vertical line.

The Eye of Horus Power-Up: removes a low-paying symbol.

The Free Spin Bonus Power-Up: This one is active once the first three boosters are used up. If you manage to get another winning combination, you have (finally) activated the free spins bonus.

Symbols and payouts

Tutankhamun, Cleopatra, and Horus, the Falcon God, are the highest paying symbols. If you manage to get a cluster of 15 or more identical symbols, you win between 75 x and 250 x the total bet.

The four Egyptian hieroglyphs are the low paying symbols: they generate wins from 7.5 x to 18 x the total bet (for a cluster of 15 identical symbols or more).

Free Spins Bonus

You win 9 free spins (as explained above with the Free Spin Bonus Power-Up), which can be retriggered (with +3 spins at a time).

During the free spins, the most important symbol, the Golden Glyph Wild Symbol, flies across the reels. It acts as a wild symbol and also has a multiplier. It starts at x1.

Each winning combination that is formed in conjunction with the Golden Glyph Wild increases the multiplier by +1.

The longer you last during the free spins bonus, the higher the multiplier. It can go up to x99, which is the key to the whopping and potentially life-changing win of 13,000x the bet!

Our verdict on the Golden Glyph video slot

With their first Cluster Pays grid slot, Quickspin has immediately managed to make it a stunner.

The game looks impressive in terms of animation, and the gameplay has depth and substance. It is not overly complicated, though, which is quite an achievement for a game with so many features.

The free spins bonus can be thrilling: remember that you can get the maximum win of no less than 13,000 x the total bet.

And last but not least: the game offers lots of variety and is great fun to play.
